Looking for tips to losing weight the healthy way? You're not alone. According to Johns Hopkins University almost 70% of adults in the United States are overweight. And most adults feel that losing this weight is an almost impossible feet. Most adults feel they are unable to find the BEST way to lose weight FAST without sacrificing their health. And it's understandable as there are many conflicting diet and exercise strategies available online and offline.
It's actually quite simple: Diet and exercise. This may seem really old-fashioned compared to some of the crazy new belly fat burner diets that are available but in reality it's the one way to lose weight and keep it off for good. Many 'fad' and 'crash' diets like France's Dukan Diet may help you lose weight quickly but once you halt the diet you'll gain the weight back you lost even faster.
The Tips
So let's get into the actual tips to losing weight the healthy way. These are by no means comprehensive but they will provide you with an excellent idea as to what you need to do to lose weight and be healthy for the rest of your life.
Tip #1: Try to avoid eating foods that contain white flour. This may be more difficult than it seems because white flour is in a LOT of products. Try replacing white flour based foods with leafy green vegetables or whole grains.
Tip #2: STOP eating products that contain high amounts of sugar. This includes sodas, candy, cookies, cake, pie, ice cream, etc. It's true that these foods are very tasty but in the long run their enjoyment is very fleeting. They may be wonderful while you are eating them but they will sabotage your efforts to lose weight and keep it off. You can have them every once in a while (for holidays and such) but make sure it's very infrequent.
Tip #3: Eat five to six small meals a day. Of all the tips to losing weight the healthy way, this one may be the most effective. And it may not be something that you adjust to easily but if you do you will reap the benefits. You can eat every 3 to 4 hours. Include some protein with each meal so that you can stay fuller longer (nuts, eggs, lean meats, fish). You can also include high-fiber foods as they will also keep you fuller much longer (oatmeal, leafy greens, apples, bananas, dried figs, brown rice, whole-wheat spaghetti, lentils, almonds, etc.). You can find a list of foods that contain fiber at the Mayo Clinic website: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/high-fiber-foods/NU00582
Also, try to include foods that are organic or as natural as possible. The “closer” to the farm that you eat a food item the more nutrients that it will contain and the easier it will be for you to lose weight in your stomach area.
Tip #4: Drink water. Drink lots of water. Get rid of all of those sugary, high calorie drinks that you have with your meals and replace them with water. You can eliminate a TON of calories each day by simply drinking nothing but water (and unsweetened tea if you want some flavor with your beverage).
Tip #5: Get some exercise. Exercise doesn't have to be a dirty word. All you really need to do is find something you enjoy doing and do it several times a week. Do you like playing tennis? How about swimming or riding your bike? All you really need to do is get your body moving and your heart rate up. This strengthens your cardiovascular system while burning calories and fat.
